Sunset sessions are one of the most magical ways to capture your family. Timing is Everything

Sunset sessions are scheduled about 60–90 minutes before sunset, depending on the season and location. This is when the light is soft, flattering, and full of that dreamy golden tone. Be sure to arrive on time—once the sun starts setting, we’re on nature’s clock!

What to Wear

Outfits play a big role in how your images look and feel. Here are some tips:

Choose a color palette with soft, earthy, or neutral tones (think creams, tans, rusts, sage, soft blues, or dusty pinks).

Avoid overly bright colors, big logos or busy patterns—they can distract from your faces and clash with the soft golden tones.

Aim for coordinated, not matching. Start with one outfit you love and build the others around it.

Flowing dresses, linen shirts, and textures like knits photograph beautifully in golden light.

Accessories - Wide brim felt hats, scarves and special pieces of jewelry

For small children, it’s a good idea to dress them once you arrive on location to avoid any spills, creases, or messes during the car ride.

If we’re doing a beach session, bring a change of clothes for everyone—you’ll likely get a bit wet splashing in the shallows or playing near the water!

Keep clothing and shoes comfortable—you’ll be walking, playing, and sitting on the ground during the session, so wear things you can move easily in.

Prep the Kids (and Partner!)

Talk about the session in a fun, positive way. Let the kids know it’s a time to play, cuddle, and have fun as a family—not a stiff photo shoot. Bribery with treats afterwards doesn’t hurt either. Make the most of being dressed up and make a plan to go out for an ice-cream or dinner after the session!

Bring a favorite (non-distracting) toy or comfort item that you don't mind being included in the photos if your child needs a little reassurance.

Make sure everyone is fed, rested, and comfortable before the session.
